MELANIE COUNSELL

A thick book and a flick book. A passage of time and memory.
Melanie Counsell on Annette

Composed of images from Melanie Counsell’s installations and films, her first bookwork Annette presents a flood of black and white images not unlike a fragmented film. Reproduced on transparent paper, over 250 grainy images of clouds and buildings, wine glasses and water systems form a tissue of thoughts, “pregnant and silent”, in Counsell’s own words: a film without a script.

Catalogue is an accompanying survey of Counsell’s site-specific installations, over the past ten years and includes works in Derry, London, Paris and Vancouver. An essay by Patricia Falguières, Historian of Philosophy at the École des Beaux Arts in Bordeaux, explores the essential relationship between location and creation in Counsell’s quietly compelling work. Photographs of each of Counsell’s major works are accompanied by the artist’s brief statements.
