ILYA & EMILIA KABAKOV
The Palace of Projects

He piles on the untruth until it takes on the poetic beauty of creative imagination.
Parkett

Ilya Kabakov is one of the great storytellers of contemporary art. The Palace of Projects was one of his most ambitious constructions, a Great Exhibition of everyday obsessions that was first installed within one of London’s finest examples of nineteenth century industrial architecture, the Roundhouse in Camden Town.

The Kabakovs’ makeshift ‘palace’ housed over sixty idiosyncratic projects in a tragic-comic attempt to account for why the world is as it is and what might be done about it. Through the pages of this artist’s book, the viewer went on an encyclopaedic journey through a world of individual and collective obsessions made by melancholics and misfits, schemers and dreamers. The book details each project through Kabakov’s sketches and descriptions of the individual projects.
