RUTH EWAN In October 2007 London's commuters may have been surprised to find a solitary accordionist at the foot of the Gherkin or an Oompah band performing on Waterloo Bridge then again they may not have encountered any of the 100 musicians scattered across the city. Ruth Ewan's Did you kiss the foot that kicked you? was a new subtle intervention inspired by the song Ballad of Accounting by the late English singer, songwriter and socialist Ewan MacColl. For one week, Ballad of Accounting was slipped into the musical repertoires of over 100 buskers and performed across the City of London as commuters journeyed to work. Five diverse performances including the bodhran, ukulele and musical saw are presented alongside the original MacColl and Seeger 1972 recording on this limited edition pink vinyl produced by acclaimed musician David Coulter. An accompanying artist booklet/ record sleeve documents the project through musical notations, archival images and an essay on the MI5 surveillance of MacColl by Ben Harker. Limited, numbered edition of 500. ISBN: 9781902201191 |
